The smoke of burnt herbs during a Mother Blessing is done to purge negative energy and welcome positive forces. This helps support the mother and positively prepare her for labour. The mother and guests say a positive chant during the smudging. (Smudging materials are included in ceremony package.)
Rose oil is symbolic as it is the oil of love. The women pass the oil around and rub it on their heart to open their heart and fill the Mother Blessing space with love, before sharing their blessing, poem, or prayer. (Rose oil is included in ceremony package.)
Each guest brings a blessing to share – A blessing is a wish for the woman as she goes into her new role as a mother and her transitional experience of birth. Guests may like to have this prepared before they attend to read in the blessing circle.
Each guest brings a bead, crystal, or charm, that can be threaded onto a necklace for the mother as it is passed around. Guests will be asked to share, how they met you, what they love about you and their wish for you and your baby. The bead, crystal or charm you choose should have a special or personal meaning. The necklace will symbolise fertility, birth, and motherhood. It may be worn during labour and birth and is a reminder to the mother of all the love and support she has, and to feel the strength of her family and friends as she births her baby to the earthside.
Guests use fresh flowers to make a flower crown for the mother to adorn her with something beautiful, her hair can also be braided. There is deep symbolisation in changing how the mother looks as she will be forever changed after birth. (Flowers and crown making materials are included in the ceremony package.)
Pampering - A relaxing floral foot soak is prepared for the mother to sit and relax in while her tribe of give her a massage with a beautiful pregnancy massage oil. (Massage oil and foot soak are included in the ceremony package.)
Guests write a positive affirmation and decorate a piece of fabric or paper. Once all the pieces are gathered, they are strung together like flags. The mother can hang these up in her home and in the room, she births in. This is a beautiful way to empower the mother for birth by helping to prepare her emotionally, spiritually, and mentally with positivity. (Flag making materials are included in the ceremony package.)
A spool of red yarn is passed around the circle and each woman wrap the yarn around her left wrist. Symbolically the red yarn connects us all, it symbolises the umbilical cord, the web of life we are all a part of. The yarn it is cut and tied onto each womans wrist as a bracelet and worn until the baby is born, then the women all cut their yarn as a symbol of unity. (Yarn is included in the ceremony package.)
The mother has the main large candle, this is her Birth Candle that she will light when she goes into labour. All the guests have a smaller candle that they come and light from the mothers Birth Candle flame. Once all the candles are lit a blessing is said for the mother and everyone blows their candles out together. Guests take their candle home and when the mother goes into labour someone tells everyone and each person lights their birth candle. This is a symbol to show the mother is supported during her labour and birth and her loved ones blessings and prayers are with her. (Up to 15 Candles are included in the ceremony package extra can be added for a small additional cost.)
